Executive summary
Indians buy supplements the way they buy groceries, mostly online and mostly on someone else's advice. We ran 25 ordinary questions across five categories with live web search, recording every entity named and every source cited. The run produced 375 citations from 181 domains.
One company answered most. Bright Lifecare, which owns HealthKart, MuscleBlaze and HK Vitals, took 16 of the 125 naming slots and supplied 30 of the 375 sources. A retailer is recommending the house brands it manufactures, and the engines never say so.
The sharpest finding sits in the vitamin questions. Of the twelve vitamin products the engines named, at least nine are sold in India under a drug licence rather than a food licence. They are medicines, and nothing in the answer tells a reader that.
