Disclaimer: This is original research data created using AI simulations, so treat it as an opinion piece rather than a statement of fact. AI models can make mistakes, and the figures here reflect what engines returned on the run date. Do your own research before you make any decision based on it.
Executive summary
AI answer engines now help Indians choose and judge the apps they order food from. We ran 25 questions across five food delivery categories with live web search, then recorded every brand named and every source cited. The run produced 375 citations from 177 unique domains.
Two apps own the answer. Swiggy and Zomato tie at 79.2 percent, and both are named on 23 of 25 questions. ONDC, the government backed open network, is a distant third at 8.0 percent, and no other delivery app reaches 6 percent.
The sharper finding sits in the sources. The two leaders supply only two of 375 citations from their own sites, so news, legal and trade sites tell their story. On the plainest question, the best food delivery app, the top five are app developers and a courier.
Top 10 brands by AI visibility score
| # | Brand | Type | Visibility | Share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Swiggy | Food delivery app | 79.2% | |

| 9 | magicpin | Food delivery app | 4.0% | |
| 10 | Foodpanda | Exited food app | 4.0% |
Visibility score method: each question ranks five entities. Rank one earns 1.00 point, rank two 0.80, down to 0.20 for rank five. Scores are totaled across 25 questions and divided by 25. Every entity named is ranked, whatever its type.
Type shows what kind of organization each entity is. AI engines name app developers, banks, cashback apps, regulators, courts, law firms, universities and even apps that have left India alongside the delivery platforms. All of them are ranked here, because all of them take up space in the answer.
Top 25 cited domains
These 25 domains are the most cited across all 25 questions and carry 44.8 percent of all citations. Trade and business news sites such as Restaurant India, MediaNama and Inc42 lead, alongside a complaint forum. No delivery app's own website makes the list.

Categories and why we chose them
We chose five categories that follow a person through the life of a food order, from picking an app to paying fees, finding deals, fixing problems and deciding whom to trust. Each one draws real search demand and carries commercial value for the platforms competing for that order.
| # | Category name | Reason for selection |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Choosing a food delivery app | This is where loyalty is won. People ask which app is best, cheapest and fastest, which one reaches small towns, and whether any real alternative exists. Whoever wins these answers decides which app sits on the home screen. |
| 2 | Fees and charges | Fees are now the main complaint about ordering in. Questions about platform fees, menu markups, delivery charges, GST and tipping test whether engines explain the bill fairly, and whose explanation of each charge the reader hears first. |
| 3 | Offers and memberships | Deals drive which app gets opened. Questions about memberships, credit cards, discounts, ONDC prices and first order offers show who shapes the money saving advice, from the apps themselves to banks, card sites and cashback firms. |
| 4 | Refunds and problems | Problems test trust in a platform. Questions about refunds, cancelled orders, complaints, missing items and delivery staff behavior show whether engines send people to the app's own support, to regulators, or to consumer courts. |
| 5 | Trust, safety and data | Ordering food means trusting an app with money, data and health. Questions about payment safety, personal data, food safety, dark patterns and how delivery workers are treated show who engines rely on for the harder questions. |
