Executive summary
AI answer engines now stand between an Indian user and the payment app they open. We ran 25 questions across five UPI categories with live web search, then recorded every brand named and every source cited. The run produced 375 citations from just 66 domains.
NPCI leads on 65.6 percent, ahead of every app. PhonePe follows at 55.2 percent, Google Pay at 52.0 percent and Paytm at 48.0 percent. The body that runs the rails outranks the brands built on them.
This is the most concentrated answer space in the series. Those 375 citations came from only 66 domains, and just 25 were cited once. Sixteen entities were named across all 25 questions, fewer than any other run.

Visibility score method: each question ranks five entities. Rank one earns 1.00 point, rank two 0.80, down to 0.20 for rank five. Scores are totalled across 25 questions and divided by 25. Every entity named is ranked, whatever its type.
Type shows what kind of organisation each entity is. AI engines name the network operator, the regulator, banks, card networks and government complaint portals alongside the apps themselves. All of them are ranked here, because all of them take up space in the answer.
Top 25 cited domains
No single publisher dominates, but the pool is tiny. Paytm and Hero FinCorp lead on 25 citations each, followed by Razorpay, Bajaj Finserv, Zet and UPI Apps on 23. Only 66 domains answered all 25 questions.

These five categories follow a user from choosing an app to recovering a wrong payment. Each one drives real search demand, carries commercial value for the apps, and forces an answer engine to name specific brands rather than give general advice.
