Which GEO tools actually change what AI models say in 2026
Only three levers exist for changing what an AI model says about a brand: whether the engine can read the pages, what the pages say, and what other sites say. Every generative engine optimization (GEO) tool in 2026 either pulls one of those levers or reports on somebody who did. Sorted that way, the ten products in this field split unevenly, and the split does not follow price.
We publish this page and sell one of the ten tools in the table. GetXEO pulls the content lever, pulls neither of the other two, and publishes nothing on off site authority, which the page states in the section where it matters. Three levers, and nothing else
Access, content and authority, and in that order.
Strip the category back and there are exactly three ways to change what a model says about a brand.
- Access. Whether an engine can fetch the page, render it, and parse what it is about. Crawler rules, server rendering, schema markup and entity declarations all live here
- Content. What the page actually says, and whether a passage can be lifted whole and remain true. Pages carrying figures, quotes and citations get named noticeably more often
- Authority. What other sites say. Summaries frequently assemble a shortlist from roundups and publisher pages the brand does not control
The order matters because access gates the other two. A page nothing can read scores zero regardless of how good it is or who links to it, which is why a brand absent from every summary in its category almost never has a writing problem.

Five and five, and the split does not follow price in either direction. AthenaHQ starts free and Writesonic at seventy nine dollars a month, and both change something. GetXEO also changes something and lists at a thousand a month, shown at five hundred, which is the dearest published figure in this field.
A None in that column is not a criticism. It is a description of where the product stops, and several of the five are the best software on this page.
The access lever, and why it moves fastest
Two products change the file rather than the report.
Access is the only lever where a change can be made in an afternoon and verified the same week.
AthenaHQ manages AI crawler access through a robots and llms file it edits directly on both paid tiers. That removes the developer queue for one specific class of problem, which is narrow and unusually valuable because it is the class that blocks everything else.
Scrunch AI serves AI agents a clean server rendered document at the CDN, which addresses a heavier version of the same problem. A site that renders content in the browser can be perfectly visible to a person and close to empty to an engine, and this fixes that without a rebuild. Site Diagnostics then records what an agent actually received, which turns an argument into a record.
Everybody else, ours included, reports the access problem and hands it over. Conductor reads the server logs and names which bots crawled which pages, which is the clearest diagnosis available and still a diagnosis.
The content lever, and why it moves slowest
The only lever that changes why an engine chooses.
Access decides whether a page can be cited. Content decides whether it deserves to be, and it is the slowest lever by a wide margin.
Writesonic writes and exports the article, aimed by its own tracking. GetXEO takes a different route. The question set is built by simulating how buyers search, and a twelve week calendar sequences new posts, refreshes and technical fixes together. The argument is that deciding what should exist is the expensive judgment, and it is an argument rather than a measured finding.
The lag compounds the slowness. A GEO score moves two to four weeks after a change, where an AEO score often moves within days, so a content program on this surface runs on a quarterly rhythm whether or not the reporting is weekly.
What the content lever buys that the others do not is a change in why an engine chose somebody else. Access gets a page into consideration. Content is the only thing that wins the position inside the summary, which is scored by paragraph rather than by presence for a reason.
The authority lever, and who can reach it
Pages the brand does not own decide many summaries.
The least served lever in this category, and frequently the decisive one.
AirOps works on the publishers and roundups an engine reaches for. It is the only product in the top ten whose published pages describe work on sites a brand does not own. Some summaries build their shortlist from third party roundups. In those categories the position is decided there, and every other tool here can only report what happened.
Research on AI search citation factors ranks off site brand signals ahead of on page craft. So the gap is worth naming plainly. We publish nothing in this direction at all. A brand whose category is written about by publishers it does not own should weigh that against GetXEO first.
What to buy when effort is the constraint
Match the purchase to the lever you can pull.
Every team here is constrained by effort rather than by information, which changes what a subscription is for.
If nobody can act, buy the cheapest thing that tells you whether the problem is access, content or authority, then stop. A precise reporting subscription with no capacity behind it is an expensive weekly reminder.
If a developer is available, buy access first. It is fast, it is verifiable, and it gates the other two levers.
If a writer is available and access is clean, buy content, and expect a quarter before the trend is readable. If neither is available and the category is owned by publishers, the authority lever is the only one left and one product on this page pulls it.
